Preparing for Sunday: February 6, 2022

The text for this upcoming Sunday comes from Luke 5:1-11. You can read the text by going here.

Here are some questions to think about the text:

1.  Jesus is teaching the crowd that had gathered at the shore of the Sea of Galilee. Why did he sit down while teaching them instead of standing up on the boat?

2.  The fishermen had been up all night fishing and now Jesus wants them to fish all over again. What do you think made Simon (also called Peter) oblige Jesus?

3.  Where do obedience and belief fit into this story, especially at this point in the story?

4.  Shortly after pulling up the great catch of fish, Peter tells Jesus to go away because of sinfulness. The prophet Isaiah says something similar after he is called to preach (Isaiah 6:5). What do you think about Peter’s sudden awareness of his sin?

5.  What does discipleship mean to you? What is a disciple? What do you think of Peter’s willingness to leave everything behind especially after such a prosperous catch? Would you do the same thing?

What are your answers? What are your questions? Feel free to share them by responding to this post in the comments section or sending an email to info@fccsaintpaul.org.
