Midnight Is Where the Day Begins. (Christmas Eve Worship)

“In John’s gospel, we are told that Christ is a light and that light was not understood by the darkness.  Jesus comes to join humanity and bring light and life.  Jesus comes to live among us, to stand with us.  But that light comes in darkness. Jesus comes to Israel, a land that was occupied by the Roman Empire.  Jesus comes and that puts fear into the heart of Herod, the king appointed by Rome.  The darkness that was in power would not be in power forever; it would fall to the light of Christ.

Midnight is where the day begins.  When life seems dark, Christ is present.  When creation was mired in sin, Christ brings light. We wait for the light of salvation and it comes even though it is dark.

Midnight is where the day begins.  The year 2020 seems like a year filled with darkness.  A pandemic that killed so many and leaves us doing church online. Many people are on the edge financially because of the economy, we are a society that is so divided, that we look at each other as the enemy.  Things just seem without hope. But even when things seem dark and hopeless, we are reminded that there is hope the hope comes in a new day where we know the light will come. We might not see the light, but it is coming. Hope is on the way.”
