Homework: Set A Course for Adventure!

This Sunday (Second Sunday of Epiphany): Come and See. The sentence sounds like someone inviting you over for warm chocolate chip cookies. Jesus and Philip tell others to “come and see” what Jesus is up to. Inviting people to meet Jesus is not about shoving the Bible in people’s faces. It’s about sharing what God means to us with our family and friends. In John 1 we see how Christ invites us to follow him and it gives us insight into how we can invite people to follow Jesus today.

Our theme for Epiphany, “For the Sake of the World,” can insinuate that this is about the church doing big things.  And that is part of it.  But that’s not all of it.  Today’s passage, “Come and See,” is more about doing the small things about inviting our friends and family to join us in the journey of following Jesus. The future of the church, the future of this congregation depends on the people who gather their courage to invite a friend or relative to “come and see” what they have found with the life of the congregation.

Here is the homework assignment for this week.  You need to answer two questions:

  1. First, what is the most favorite thing about the life that we here at First Christian share together in the community?

  2. The second question is would you be willing to invite someone to come and see this aspect of our community in action?

When you answer those questions, send them back via email to me at dsanders@fccsaintpaul.org. The answers won’t be shared with anyone but me. Have a good week!
